What personal data we collect and why
We collect information you provide (for example through contact forms or comments) and technical data such as IP address and browser details for security, spam detection and site performance.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the form, plus IP address and browser user agent to help with spam detection. An anonymised string (hash) of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use it. After approval, your profile image is visible with your comment.
Media
If you upload images, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email and website in cookies for your convenience (one year). We set a temporary cookie on the login page to check if your browser accepts cookies (deleted when you close your browser). When you log in, we set cookies to save your login and screen choices. “Remember Me” lasts two weeks. Editing or publishing an article adds a cookie with the post ID, expiring in one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles may include embedded content (videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited those websites and may collect data, use cookies and track your interaction.
Analytics and anti-spam
We may use Google Analytics 4 and automated spam detection services. These services process technical data such as IP address, device and usage information to help us understand website performance and prevent abuse.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Service providers (hosting, email, security, analytics) may process data on our behalf under contracts that protect your information.
Where your data is stored and transferred
Our providers may store or process data in Australia and other countries. We take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
How long we retain your data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely to recognise and approve follow-ups automatically. For registered users, we store the personal information in their profile. Users can see, edit or delete their information at any time (except username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Your rights

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, but no method is 100% secure.
Children’s privacy
This website is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
